What is grass fed beef?
Grass fed beef is a term used to describe how cattle used to be raised
— and, as you can see, some still are. Grass-fed beef and lamb, as opposed to feedlot
grainfed animals, have been compared to the best wild game meat.
Grass Fed Beef
Our beef is strictly grass fed on native mountain grasses on the high summer range in
the Bridger Mountains and, when on the ranch on the Wind River, irrigated pasture or alfalfa
hay.
We do not chemically fertilize our fields or use growth stimulants of any kind. Our
animals are rarely confined and are raised as cleanly and naturally as possible.
Our cattle are a Saler-Angus composit. With proper aging, grass fed beef is a tender,
flavorful and healthful product -- beef in its natural state before it is "finished"
on grain, usually corn, in the feed lot process. Grain feeding changes the fat content
of the meat as well as the acidity in the gut, thus making the animal more prone to disease.
More information about the omega 3 versus omega 6 fats may be found at eatwild.com.
Grass fed lamb
Our lamb is raised in a similar fashion -- grass fed with a minimum of confinment and
handling. The lambs are butchered at an age of 6 months to one year.
Cameron Ranch grass-fed beef and lamb have been marketed conventionally but now we are
trying to make a closer contact with consumers by offering high quality, ranch-raised beef
and lamb, direct from us to you.
